Starting with the person, not only the symptom

When most of us catch a cold, we describe it the same way: a blocked nose, a sore throat, a heavy head. A homeopathic consultation begins from a different question. Not only what are the symptoms, but how do they show up in you, and what else is happening alongside them?

That wider picture includes how you sleep, how your energy rises and falls through the day, what you crave or avoid, and how stress or worry tends to affect you. None of these details replaces a diagnosis. They help your practitioner understand you as an individual.

Two people, one cold

Imagine two people with the same cold. The first has a streaming nose and watery eyes, feels restless, and wants the window open. The second feels heavy and chilly, wants to be left alone under a blanket, and has little thirst. On paper, both have “a cold”. In practice, they are having quite different experiences of it.

In homeopathic practice, these differences are what guide the choice of remedy. It is also why a practitioner may ask questions that seem unrelated to the problem you came in with.

The label on the symptom is only the beginning. The way it shows up in you is what we want to understand.

What a first consultation explores

A first visit is unhurried. You will not be asked to rush through a checklist. Most of the time is spent listening, and your practitioner will usually cover:

  • Your main concern, when it began, and how it has changed over time
  • Sleep, energy, digestion and appetite
  • What makes your symptoms better or worse, including weather, food and time of day
  • Emotional wellbeing, stress and how you tend to cope
  • Your medical history and any medicines or supplements you currently take

Consultations leave room to talk through your history in your own words.

Where homeopathy fits alongside conventional care

Many people come to us because they want a gentler, more personal approach to everyday health. Our practitioners work with that in mind, and encourage you to keep your regular doctor informed about anything you try.

Good to know. Homeopathy is a complementary approach. Please keep taking any prescribed medicines, and contact your doctor or local emergency number for urgent or severe symptoms.

Questions worth bringing to your first visit

A good consultation goes both ways. Before you arrive, it can help to write down a few questions of your own:

  • What should I expect over the next few weeks?
  • How will we know whether the approach is helping?
  • How does this fit with the treatment I already have?
  • Is there anything in my routine worth changing alongside it?

If you are not sure where to begin, send us a message and we will help you choose a time that suits you.
